Much like Alex Ovechkin, Ilya Kovalchuk, and certain other Russian players, the young defenseman is allegedly not 18 years old but actually 20, according to former Canadiens scout Grant McCagg.
We're still at the stage of suspicion, but McCagg strongly highlighted this during his appearance on Tony Marinaro's Sick Podcast.
Similar things were said about Alex Ovechkin and Ilya Kovalchuk in the past, but no one has ever been able to prove it.
McCagg therefore believes that Levshunov won't be as good as expected since he might be two years further along in his development.
This is a very serious accusation made against a young player on the eve of the draft, especially since McCagg's opinion is quite credible in the eyes of many.
Let's hope this hasn't discredited young Levshunov and that he receives the treatment he deserves, which is to be selected among the top defensemen in the draft.
Personally, I can't believe that in 2024, a player would use this kind of strategy to be drafted higher.
McCagg's statement could sow doubt and have an impact on the Canadiens.
The Blackhawks, who have the 2nd overall pick, have watched Levshunov play about 20 times throughout the year. They seem very interested in him.
You see where I'm going with this. If the Blackhawks select a defenseman, it increases Kent Hughes' chances of drafting Ivan Demidov or Cayden Lindstrom with the 5th pick.
