Corey Perry's return to the NHL: there is a development
The Corey Perry situation has been a hot topic in recent weeks, and a recent statement from insider Elliotte Friedman has added fuel to the fire.
"I don't know what decision Corey Perry will make, but there is certainly a willingness within the union to challenge even if Perry refuses. I don't know the exact details, and I have no intention of downplaying anything, but there is a strong belief that the NHLPA cannot allow this precedent."
- Elliotte Friedman
This means that the NHLPA could appeal the Blackhawks' decision, but we already knew that. However, as my colleague William Nadeau from the site Habs & LNH mentions, if the Players' Association decides to appeal, it necessarily means that the originally committed act is not so unforgivable.
It's worth noting that significant breaches of conditions are required for a contract to be terminated in the NHL. If the NHLPA can prove that the act is not so unforgivable, not only will Perry be paid his full $4 million, but other teams might also be less hesitant to consider him.
This could really change everything. Imagine if his actions turn out not to be too serious, and Kent Hughes decides to sign him for the rest of the season. The love between Montreal and Perry is mutual!
