It's confirmed for Jake Allen and Kent Hughes: The reason why he has not been traded yet is known thanks to Elliotte Friedman
For a while now, there has been talk about Jake Allen being on the trade market. With Cayden Primeau's performance this year, the dynamics have changed, and the organization prefers to keep the younger, less expensive goalie, and rightfully so.
Although Allen can certainly help a team win, his contract works against him. It is often thought that this is what hinders Kent Hughes from trading him, but according to Elliotte Friedman, that's not the case.
Friedman states that there are currently five goalies officially on the market, and Allen is among the top 2 most interesting. Only Kaapo Kahkonen might be in higher demand, but even then, he lacks the experience and track record of a Jake Allen.
The real reason is simple: Kent Hughes is being ambitious and is letting the bidding wars unfold. The GM firmly believes he will get the price he wants and is not deviating from that.
"Allen is definitely available; he has another year on his contract, but the Canadiens are asking for a higher price." - Elliotte Friedman
The other available goalies are Elvis Merzlikins, Jacob Markstrom, and John Gibson, all of whom have longer contracts with higher salaries than Jake Allen.
If we understand Friedman correctly, it seems the Canadiens' goaltending trio might be done, but Kent Hughes was not satisfied with the offers.
