Patrick Roy back behind a bench in Europe?
The return of Patrick Roy behind an NHL team's bench is eagerly anticipated, but until then, he is taking some well-deserved rest after working hard in recent years.
We tend to forget that Roy not only coached a winning team with the Quebec Remparts but also served as the general manager, which is quite an accomplishment!
Now that we know Roy turned down offers from two teams out West for a head coaching position, an announcement has raised many questions about his future in Europe.
Indeed, Patrick, along with Jacques Tanguay and Jean Bédard, President of "La Cage aux Sports" breweries, has become a shareholder in the Boxers de Bordeaux, a hockey team in the top French league.
"Jean called me to gauge my interest in joining the organization. That day, I was with Patrick, and we decided together to embark on the adventure. We will be able to bring our expertise and provide advice when needed, in addition to having fun," said Jacques Tanguay to journalist Kevin Dubé of the Journal de Québec.
This led many to think that Roy could take on an important role, such as head coach or general manager of the team. However, Jacques Tanguay brought everyone back to reality:
"It won't happen! There's no secret; Patrick went to rest. He still has great potential for the future in a sport that has always fascinated him," said Jacques Tanguay in an article in the JDQ.
This means that we can dismiss this option. Roy remains available for the NHL, and that's his number one choice.
