Athlete passes away during competition, leaving everyone shocked
We are in the midst of the Olympics, where athletes are in the spotlight around the world.
We've witnessed some rather sad scenes, with injuries or infections occurring, but fortunately, no deaths have been reported in Paris.
Lazar Dukic was not as fortunate during the CrossFit Games, as he tragically lost his life due to drowning.
The Serbian athlete disappeared underwater during an 800-meter swimming competition, leaving everyone in shock.
All of the day's events were canceled, and authorities worked tirelessly to locate the athlete. Unfortunately, it was only two hours later that his body was recovered and his death was confirmed.
"We are fully cooperating with the authorities and doing everything possible to support the family at this time."
- CrossFit Games, via official statement
A tragedy that should never have occurred. Dukic was ranked 88th in the world in this discipline and 3rd in Serbia.
Our thoughts are with Dukic's loved ones during these difficult and tragic times.
