It's now confirmed for Jacob Trouba for his vicious hit on Justin Barron
Journalist Peter Baugh has just revealed a verdict that risks getting Montreal Canadiens fans talking: Jacob Trouba, defenseman of the New York Rangers, will not be sanctioned for his controversial hit on young Justin Barron.
According to Baugh's sources, the National Hockey League ruled that Trouba's action was in compliance with the regulations and that there was therefore no reason for suspension.
«The Canadiens have requested that the Department of Player Safety review the hit to Jacob Trouba last night, but I have been told that no sanctions are expected. The Department of Player Safety considered it a free hit.» - Peter Baugh
This verdict comes despite the official request of the Montreal Canadiens, who had requested an investigation from the Department of Player Safety.
The hit in question, which struck Barron directly on the head, was deemed legal by the disciplinary committee.
While some, like François Gagnon, see in this decision a sign of consistency in the committee's judgments, others are indignant, like Pierre Houde, who was really not happy yesterday, live on RDS.
Especially when the game is 7-2, what is the need to make this kind of move? Come on! Especially since it is not Jacob Trouba's first body check of this kind in the NHL...
