Paris Olympics: Horrific scene as athlete suffers severe injury
Injuries are part of sports, but we never wish for an athlete to be stretchered off, unable to move their limbs.
Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened to 3000-meter steeplechase world champion Lamecha Girma, who fell and violently hit his head and face on the ground.
"Lamecha Girma was stretchered off and appeared unresponsive with his limbs upon being transported. We sincerely hope that he will recover well from this terrible incident and that he will not suffer any lasting effects."
- Monde de Stars
This scene is spine-chilling and deeply regrettable. Head injuries can be very serious, and given the force of the impact, we truly hope there will be no lasting consequences.
Girma was unable to move his limbs, which is even more concerning. Our thoughts are with him during this critical time. We hope he recovers swiftly.
