Return of the Quebec Nordiques: A Serious Slap in the Face to Fans and Gary Bettman Remains Blind to Arizona
In Quebec City, there's an arena, a solid fan base, and equally solid investors. The city would be ready to welcome an NHL team tomorrow morning, but Gary Bettman continues to insist on Arizona.
The commissioner has once again chosen to turn a blind eye, claiming that Arizona is a good hockey market.
Hello? Will someone ever manage to make him see reason? NHL hockey has never worked there in nearly 30 years. Every season has been a financial loss. What more does it take?
"Gary Bettman mentions that there's nothing new in the Coyotes' situation. He continues to believe that Arizona remains an excellent hockey market." - Luc Gélinas, RDS
We've all heard his talk about population base and potential fans, but what's the point of establishing a team where there are many residents who don't care about hockey?
In Quebec, people are passionate about hockey. In Arizona, I'd be curious to know the percentage of people who have ever held a hockey stick in their hands.
Regardless, it's now confirmed that the Coyotes will stay in Arizona for at least another year.
"Bill Daly mentioned today that the Arizona Coyotes will play in Arizona next season, even if they are unable to purchase the land up for auction (Phoenix) in June. Possible relocation will have to wait for another season." - Renaud Lavoie, TVA Sports
It's starting to become a real farce. It seems like it's his project, not a project for the good of the NHL.
