Gary Bettman would be furious to see the Edmonton Oilers in the finals
It's no secret; Gary Bettman never seems very pleased to see a Canadian team succeed.
The commissioner represents the franchise owners, and since the majority are American, most are satisfied when the Stanley Cup is won south of the border.
"A rumor has been circulating for a long time that the NHL commissioner isn't particularly fond of Canadian markets. This could potentially explain why he is so reluctant about the possibility of bringing the Quebec Nordiques back, but that's another story." - Keven Mawn
Bettman has long praised the markets further south in the United States. While Las Vegas has been a resounding success with the Golden Knights' expansion, this isn't the case for all teams.
Indeed, the Panthers have never really been popular, but they have a financially strong owner. Bettman would have certainly loved to see the Stars make it to the finals, but that's not going to happen.
According to many people, the commissioner is disappointed, even furious about the outcome, and Jean-Charles Lajoie shares this disappointment.
"I'm pretty shocked. Never thought I'd be as disappointed as Gary Bettman about a Stanley Cup final matchup. It's all a bit unreal. At least it'll make for good television for the last week of JiC's season!
See you tomorrow at 5 PM." - Jean-Charles Lajoie, who says (like Gary Bettman) he is very disappointed with the 2024 Stanley Cup final matchup
However, the best player in the entire NHL is in the finals. That's not insignificant! Connor McDavid will try to dazzle us, as he has done throughout the past few years.
It's understandable that the Stars were the favorites, but being disappointed to see the Oilers in the finals is a bit exaggerated in my opinion.
