The trade rumors involving Trevor Zegras have been ongoing since the summer, and the Montreal Canadiens consistently appear in discussions.

This perspective is not just from journalists covering the Canadiens but comes from all corners of the league. With Mason McTavish and Leo Carlsson likely to be used as the top two centers, what is Zegras' role?

According to Shayna Goldman, a journalist from The Athletic, a trade to Montreal makes the most sense.

"The Canadiens don't need Zegras as a first-line center; that's Nick Suzuki's role. Now that Suzuki has become a player excelling in both ends of the ice, it opens the door to a second line where Zegras would be more comfortable. The Suzuki-Zegras duo would help distribute points and force opponents to rethink their defensive assignments instead of focusing on neutralizing Suzuki and Cole Caufield's line.

Zegras would only add long-term potential to the Canadiens' young core, even if he has some flaws in his game. Time spent with a coach like Martin St-Louis could help him find ways to improve his overall skills."

While he has been injured since the 2nd game of the season, it's essential not to forget Kirby Dach in the mix. He is still young, and the Canadiens are far from giving up on him.

If Zegras indeed arrives in Montreal, the strategy will need a significant rethink, particularly regarding which of the two will play at center. Personally, if he's healthy, I'd like to see the current number 76 at center.

If the organization sees things as I do, Zegras should play on the wing with Kirby Dach or on Nick Suzuki's line.
