Huge statement from Pat Brisson regarding Patrick Kane, Kent Hughes, and the Montreal Canadiens
Cole Caufield and Patrick Kane have something in common: they share the same agent. Pat Brisson was a guest on Jean-Charles Lajoie's interview presented before the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Of course, Brisson is a busy man following the contract signing of his client. This didn't stop him from being generous in his responses when JiC asked him if there was interest in Montreal.
"If I had said to Kent Hughes, 'Pat is interested in coming to Montreal,' he would have been happy to welcome him. Several teams were up against the cap for him." - Brisson, via TVA Sports
Obviously, Kane is at a point in his career where he prefers to play for a team with a chance to make the playoffs and perhaps win a 4th Stanley Cup.
According to the agent, the financial aspect wasn't even important for Kane.
"We agreed on 2.75 million with the Red Wings to give them a million in cap space at the trade deadline. [...] Also, Kane was familiar with Alex DeBrincat, which was a factor." - Brisson, via TVA Sports This means that the enthusiasm could have been there for Montreal, but the fact that the team was in a rebuilding phase played a role. It's worth noting that Kane will play for his third team, and they are all Original Six teams.
To conclude, Brisson mentioned that he is not worried about Cole Caufield. Even though his client is on pace for only 26 goals, he would not be surprised if he increases the pace and still scores 35 or 40 this season.
