MAJOR: Cole Caufield has set a new impressive NHL record by a significant margin
The Canadiens faced a lot of adversity in Thursday night's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, but they showed tremendous character by coming back from a two-goal deficit to win in overtime.
Leadership was at its peak, with Martin St-Louis, Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Sean Monahan, and Michael Matheson raising their game to secure the two points.
Once again, it was number 22 who settled the debate in overtime, a situation he seems to excel in. It's his second overtime goal this year, and he had already surpassed a team record.
As of today, he has six game-winning goals in overtime in 130 games. He has become the player to reach this milestone the fastest in NHL history. His closest pursuer is Brayden Point, who accomplished this feat in 190 games, according to statistics from the Sportsnet website.
Not only is Caufield a goal-scoring machine, but he scores at crucial moments. It's incredible that he fell to the 15th overall pick in the 2019 draft, and the Canadiens had the chance to select him.
