MAJOR: Marc-André Fleury kept his word, and Gary Bettman will have to decide
As mentioned earlier today, Marc-André Fleury had a mask created in honor of Indigenous people, for his wife and for a good cause. It's a beautiful mask that is entirely appropriate, and he intended to wear it during the warm-up period of tonight's game.
Unfortunately, Gary Bettman and the NHL opposed him wearing the mask and threatened to fine him. Marc-André announced that he would still wear it, and the NHL then threatened to fine the Minnesota Wild if he did.
In short, this story has caused quite a stir, and Bettman does not seem to be in a favorable light.
Marc-André still wore his mask, much to the delight of hockey fans who support him! It's important to stand by one's convictions in life, and Marc-André did what he believed was right.
Now, it's up to Gary Bettman to decide whether to lose face by fining him or lose face by reversing his decision. Reversing the decision would arguably be a less damaging move for his image.
