Plot twist in the upcoming deal between the Canadiens and the Oilers involving goaltender Samuel Montembeault
For weeks, there has been talk of an almost imminent trade between the Oilers and the Canadiens involving a goaltender. Not just any goaltender, we're talking about reputable insiders like Elliotte Friedman and Darren Dreger, among others.
Names have even been mentioned, with these insiders being convinced that Ken Holland, the GM in Edmonton, is finalizing his choice between Cayden Primeau and Samuel Montembeault, but leaning towards the latter.
In short, the way they talk about it, it seems more like a matter of 'when' rather than 'if.'
During an appearance on BPM Sports, Pierre LeBrun mentioned that this whole story is much ado about nothing.
According to the insider, Kent Hughes and Ken Holland have not recently spoken. How could a trade be on the verge of being announced if the two general managers are not currently in negotiations?
Yes, the Oilers are looking for a goaltender and exploring their options, but that's about it.
According to Pierre LeBrun, the Oilers have not discussed Samuel Montembeault or any other goaltender with the Canadiens.
LeBrun adds that it doesn't mean they won't talk and that there won't be a trade between the two teams, but for now, the rumors are exaggerated.
