Acquisition of Patrik Laine: Kent Hughes had an ace up his sleeve
On Monday, the Canadiens announced that they had acquired Patrik Laine at a very modest price, to say the least.
They offered Jordan Harris, whose future in Montreal was very uncertain, and received a second-round pick in addition. It bears repeating: this is an excellent transaction by GM Kent Hughes.
Despite the many negative things being said about the Finnish player, Kent Hughes had an ace up his sleeve during the negotiations.
A certain Pascal Vincent is now the head coach of the Rocket, and he has worked with Patrik Laine twice, with the Winnipeg Jets and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
He is probably the coach who knows the forward best in the entire NHL, so he certainly provided good advice to Kent Hughes.
Nothing was left to chance. Kent Hughes had this ace up his sleeve, then he met with the Finnish player alongside Jeff Gorton and Martin St-Louis before finalizing the trade.
So, it can be said without a doubt that the organization truly believes this is not destined to fail, quite the opposite.
