Big statement from Michael Pezzetta about Cole Caufield and it says a lot
Cole Caufield is trying to establish himself as a leader with the Canadiens, and it's perfectly normal when you're signed long-term with the team.
With the difficulties surrounding his contract extension last year, all sorts of rumors came out suggesting he was very demanding financially, but when we saw he was earning less than Nick Suzuki, we understood that wasn't necessarily the case.
Michael Pezzetta has just added another layer, stating that no one on the team is as generous as #22. He takes his leadership role seriously and is heavily involved with his teammates.
Indeed, according to Pezzetta, no one puts as much money on the board for the team as Caufield. He's truly dedicated.
"For those who don't know, 'putting money on the board' in hockey is when a player writes a certain amount of money next to their name before an important game. If their team wins, the player donates that money to the team fund used for organizing activities or events."
Imagine working for a company where a percentage of your salary goes into a social fund. Obviously, if you're one of the top earners, you'd contribute more than those who earn less.
Cole voluntarily contributes more than others, knowing full well he earns more and that the team will benefit from these contributions.
This is another wonderful example of Cole's team spirit and leadership, rightfully making him a fan favorite at the Bell Centre.
