We have a surprise retirement announcement from a key player in the Canadiens organization to share.

Indeed, the captain of the Trois-Rivières Lions, Cédric Montminy, is retiring from professional hockey, and the CH's ECHL affiliate will need to find a new leader.

"Thank you for everything Captain Montminy!

Your time with the Trois-Rivières Lions has deeply marked the organization.

You will forever remain in our hearts as a true Lion!"

It's always sad to see such an important player depart. Montminy was a cornerstone of the team and a great mentor to the younger players.

The player himself had a message for the fans of Trois-Rivières, as did the organization.

Trois-Rivières, July 23, 2024 Cedric Montminy, the first captain in the history of the Trois-Rivières Lions, announces his retirement from professional hockey.

The adopted Trifluvian joined the Lions before the team's inaugural season in 2021-2022 and was named captain by the management at the time. "Montmin" held this title until the end of last season, his third with the Lions and his sixth in the ECHL.

In 205 games wearing the Lions' uniform, Captain Montminy accumulated 64 goals and 64 assists for a total of 128 points. Last season, he also scored his 100th professional goal.

The player wishes to thank the fans in the Mauricie region for the last 3 years of his professional career: "The support and recognition will forever be engraved in my memory."

Montminy is thus leaving the professional hockey world on a high note, having achieved great things.

We wish him a wonderful retirement and a successful post-career!
