Christian Dvorak's fate already decided? He could receive the same treatment as Joel Armia
The Canadiens are increasingly deep, and when looking at young players like Oliver Kapanen, it's clear why a veteran like Christian Dvorak is less important.
However, before declaring loudly that he is no longer valuable, one must not overlook the worth of a veteran like him in the locker room and on the ice.
We've often seen young teams lack good veterans to support the youth, and we can see the results of that. The Buffalo Sabres are a very good example.
Currently, Christian Dvorak's value is unfortunately negative, meaning that Kent Hughes would have to pay to get rid of him. Given that the salary cap is not an issue and the team is in rebuilding mode, it would be unacceptable for Kent Hughes to act that way.
Oliver Kapanen's situation complicates things
Oliver Kapanen is earning a spot on the roster, but his contract situation is tricky. He can either play in Montreal or in Europe. He cannot go to Laval, and if he goes to Europe, he cannot be recalled during the season. We will have to wait until his season is over.
If Christian Dvorak is excess and Kent Hughes does not receive a sensible offer, could he place him on waivers and then send him to Laval, as he did with Joel Armia?
That's quite possible. After all, Dvorak wouldn't be claimed unless there was a major surprise. He would remain available for recall while rebuilding his confidence, and it would allow the organization to keep Oliver Kapanen in Montreal.
Personally, I believe that if no positive trade is possible for Kent Hughes, sending him through waivers to the Rocket is the best solution. Time for the young players, and Oliver Kapanen is ready to make the jump.
