Major acquisition confirmed by Kent Hughes and the Canadiens on offense: a winning strategy
Kent Hughes is turning the Montreal Canadiens into a very solid hockey team, and this is evident with the current rebuild.
Although he isn't the sole architect of this impressive work, he is undoubtedly a major contributor. He has the final say and makes good decisions, supported by a strong team.
In fact, a strategy used just before the draft allowed him to select Ivan Demidov at 5th overall.
"The best move the Canadiens made for the 2024 NHL Draft might be the one they never made. When Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton didn't show up in Fort Lauderdale a week before the draft to meet Ivan Demidov, speculation ran high. However, this ploy was part of the organization's strategy, employing reverse psychology to increase their chances of securing a coveted prospect who had played in his home country last season."

Since Russian players are not invited to the NHL Combine, Ivan Demidov traveled to Florida to meet with teams and make himself available, but the Canadiens did not show up. The strategy proved to be successful.
"For those wondering why we didn't go to Florida, it was because we didn't want to reveal how interested we were in Demidov," Hughes revealed.
"We didn't need to interview him."

Ivan Demidov is now a member of the Montreal Canadiens, having been selected 5th overall.
I'm not a fortune teller, but I'm sure there are a few teams that will regret not picking him when they had the chance.
