This isn't just a rumorLaine wants to leave Columbus, and his agent, along with the team, is working to find a trade partner.
The new GM of the Blue Jackets, Don Waddell, has his work cut out for him.
We are talking about a forward who still has the potential to be elite in the NHL. He has an impressive stature at 6'5" and 215 lbs, and he has been able to produce nearly a point per game with Columbus, which is far from having the best offense.
Imagine him with Kirby Dach on the second line. He could have the same impact as Juraj Slafkovsky on the first line.
Additionally, he would be joining his compatriot Joel Armia, who had a very strong rebound last year under Martin St-Louis.
He's a similar type of playerexcellent when he's in the zone but can be a bit nonchalant at times. St-Louis seems capable of making them productive.
Above all, Laine only has two years left on his contract and would cost much less to acquire than Trevor Zegras or Martin Necas.
He doesn't represent a huge risk. At worst, if it doesn't work out, he can be let go in two years.
