Ottawa Senators: DJ Smith is fired, paving the way for Patrick Roy
It has been a long-awaited moment for the grand return of Patrick Roy to the NHL. Rumors were consistently linking him to Ottawa, but the vote of confidence still leaned toward DJ Smith.
Believe it or not, Smith has just been fired, and Jacques Martin has taken over as interim head coach.
"News Release: D.J. Smith has been relieved of his head coaching duties; Jacques Martin has been named #Sens interim head coach. Daniel Alfredsson joins the team's coaching staff as an assistant coach."

Will Patrick Roy be the announced head coach at the beginning of the next season? Jacques Martin is an experienced coach, but I would be surprised if the organization brings in a veteran coach for long-term guidance of young players.
We still don't know what the future holds for Roy, but one thing is certain: he now has his best chance to return to the NHL, and it could happen as early as this summer.
