Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby reunited? Major development
Since their first season in the NHL, where Alex Ovechkin won the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year, Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin have always been compared.
The first overall pick in 2004 and the one in 2005 have both had great careers, and it's not over yet. Crosby has one year left on his contract with the Penguins, while Ovechkin has two years left with the Capitals.
Moreover, Alex Ovechkin has clearly mentioned that he dreams of playing with Crosby.
«It's not my job to come and say I want to see Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid on our team, [...] but yes it would be a dream.»
- Alex Ovechkin Obviously, Connor McDavid is unlikely to leave the Oilers, barring a huge surprise, but Crosby might leave the Pens, as he hasn't gotten over the departure of Jake Guentzel.
«Crosby coming here (to play with you) would be something, it would be huge!»
- Washington Journalist
«Yeah, maybe. Yeah, you should call him. You should call him.»
- Alex Ovechkin
Of course, Ovechkin said this with a dose of humor, but there was also a grain of truth.
Crosby and Ovechkin reunited at the end of their careers?
In my opinion, there's a higher chance of Ovechkin leaving the Caps than Crosby leaving the Pens. Remember that number 8 confided about his stressful year, believing he would be traded before the deadline.
After that date, his production exploded, helping his team qualify for the playoffs.
Imagine the scenario of seeing Crosby and Ovechkin together for one or two years to end their careers. Number 87 helping number 8 break Wayne Gretzky's goal record would be quite a story!
